Ketogenic is a word used to describe a process by which fat is broken down in the body (metabolised) to generate energy.
A ketone is an 'energy' molecule that the liver produces, when it breaks down (metabolises) fat.
Ketosis is the term for when the body has produced a concentration of ketones that they become detectable, using a test, in either the blood or urine.
There is over 100 years of research that provides the evidence that switching from burning glucose to burning ketones can control epilepsy seizures.
It is thought that one of the first reports to connect keto with helping to prevent epilepsy seizures is associated with Ernest Shackleton's expedition to the Antarctic.

Harold Shaw was a 29 year-old man who was part of the Ross Sear Party, and supported Ernest Shackleton's expedition, experienced 'nocturnal [epilsepy] seizures'. those seizures are believed to have diminished as a result of food rationing and surviving by killing seals, eating the blubber or fat.
A high fat diet is not the same as a diet that leads to body producing a lot of fat. Once the body is producing and burning ketones from the food you are eating, that means your body burns the fat you eat. Your body is much less likely to store the fat you eat 'for a rainy day'. However, you do still need to be aware that you will increase your weight should you consume more calories than you burn by staying active.
Weight loss was not the main objective, when people discovered the health benefits associated with burning fat. It my come as a surprise to some that weight gain happens in people who switch to burning fat instead of carbohydrate.
The following is a quote taken from a 2019 scientific publication "Omega Fatty Acids in Brain and Neurological Health": "Several molecular mechanisms were hypothesized to be implicated in the protective role of omega-3 PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids), including regulation of neuro-inflammation, modulation of adult hippocampal neurogenesis, neurite outgrowth, and synaptogenesis. Even though, scientific evidence supports the neuroprotective effects of omega-3 PUFAs, there are still some controversies about their efficacy."
Chia seeds are "ascribed a beneficial effect on the improvement of the blood lipid profile. Experiments confirmed their hypotensive, hypoglycaemic, antimicrobial and immunostimulatory effects. Due to the capacity of chia seeds to absorb water and to form gels, they may be used in food technology as a substitute of emulsifiers and stabilisers. In conclusion, chia seeds (Salvia hispanica) are a valuable raw material whose technological properties and health-promoting properties can be widely used in the food industry." This quote is from a review article in 'Nutrients' published in 2019 and can be read from here.
